Florida Hometown Heroes Program 2025

Starting August 18, 2025, the Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program helps make homeownership more affordable for the people who serve our communities every day. If you’re a first-time, income-qualified homebuyer and work in eligible professions such as healthcare, education, first response, public safety, child care, or you’re an active military member, veteran, or National Guard, you may qualify for up to $35,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance to purchase your primary residence in Florida.

Why Choose the Hometown Heroes Program?

The Hometown Heroes (HTH) Program was created to help Florida’s workforce buy homes where they live and serve. Here’s what makes it such a powerful opportunity:

✅ Up to 5% of your loan amount toward down payment and closing costs (Maximum $35,000 / Minimum $10,000)

✅ 0% interest, 30-year deferred second mortgage (No monthly payments until you sell, refinance, or move out)

✅ Competitive, low first mortgage interest rates

✅ No origination or discount points

✅ Available on FHA, VA, USDA, and Conventional loans

Who Qualifies?

To qualify for the Florida Hometown Heroes Program, you must:

1. Be a first-time homebuyer and meet income requirements

2. Work full-time for a Florida-based employer

3. Be in one of the following eligible groups:

✅ Healthcare workers

✅ School employees (teachers, support staff, administrators)

✅ First responders & public safety professionals (police, firefighters, EMTs)

✅ Court and child care workers

✅ Active military, military reserves, Coast Guard, Florida National Guard

✅ Veterans working full-time for a Florida employer

How the Assistance Works

Your down payment and closing cost assistance is provided as a 0% interest, non-amortizing, 30-year deferred second mortgage.

You do not make monthly payments on this assistance

The loan becomes due only if you sell, refinance, transfer the deed, or move out of the home

The Hometown Heroes loan is not forgivable

Why Act Now?

With up to $35,000 in assistance and lower interest rates, this program makes buying a home in Florida significantly more affordable. Funds are limited, and programs like this can fill up quickly, don’t miss your opportunity.
